About Us

McCarthy Ventures (MV) was established in 2003 by brothers Rory and Tim McCarthy. The company performs a number of roles as investor, co-investor, consultant and corporate financier.

The team is made up of experienced bankers and sector specialists, which have collectively been involved in deals worth in excess of USD3 Billion.

The company has close associations with an extensive range of international investment companies and funds and has access to substantial capital resources for private equity investments and corporate restructurings.

MV has partnered with some of the world’s largest funds and high net worth individuals and has been involved in some very high-profile investments and transactions.

MV acted as advisor and helped fund the acquisition of Manchester City Football Club by the former Prime Minister of Thailand, Thaksin Shinawatra. The club was eventually sold to Abu Dhabi and has gone on to be a multi-billion dollar club.

MV acted as consultant to Bangkok Land and solely raised more than USD650 million of new capital for the company. The team worked closely with management to deal with the company’s creditors and to restructure over USD1 Billion of debt. Through the efforts of MV, Bangkok Land was saved from insolvency and turned into a multi-billion dollar company. The company now owns and operates one of the world’s largest exhibition halls, conference and convention centres in the world, hosting huge international events and attracting over 30 million visitors a year.

The McCarthy brothers sat on the Boards of a number of the joint ventures with the Virgin Group of Companies including Virgin’s music business, in which the brothers held a 35% equity holding. Other joint ventures included Virgin Helicopters, Virgin Cosmetics and Virgin Clothing.

The McCarthy brothers were also the original funders of the hugely successful Wagamama Restaurant Group. The concept was the brainchild of Alan Yau, who went on to create such notable eateries as Hakkasan, Park Chinois and Yauatcha. The brothers owned 35% of Wagamama, which was recently sold to The Restaurant Group for circa USD700 million.

Key to management’s success is its ability to forge close working relationships with its joint-venture partners, clients and associates. Some of these relationships span decades and have led to the company’s diverse range of interests over the years, from property to oil and gas, to telecoms to hotels to football to restaurants to films, etc. The company’s close associates include Heads of Governments, Captains of Industry, Renowned Entrepreneurs, Sports Personalities, Hollywood Film Stars and Musicians.
